Principal Rachel Preston
Greetings Potomac Middle School Family,
My name is Dr. Rachel Preston, and I am the proud principal of Potomac Middle School. I am honored to lead our students and staff with a strong commitment to academic excellence. As I begin my 17th year in education, I find myself reflecting on how much our students—and the field of education as a whole—have evolved. These changes reaffirm my dedication to being a lifelong learner who continually seeks and implements innovative strategies to meet the needs of our students.
A little about me: I am originally from Los Angeles, California, and first came to Virginia to attend college. I received my Bachelor’s in English and Master’s in Teaching from Hampton University. I later earned my Education Specialist Degree in Administration and Supervision from Virginia Tech, where I also completed my Doctorate of Education in Administration, Supervision, and Policy in December 2024.
I began my PWCS career at Fred Lynn Middle School as an 8th grade Language Arts teacher. I then joined Bull Run Middle School, where I taught 7th grade ELA and coached cheerleading for eight years. After serving in several leadership roles at Bull Run and throughout the county, I answered the call to administration and accepted the assistant principal position at Hampton Middle School. I proudly served there for four years before being promoted to Principal of Potomac Middle School.
Education is truly my passion. I believe every student can succeed when they have a caring adult in their corner. My goal is to build strong relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members to ensure all students experience rich and engaging learning opportunities.
I am looking forward to a year of learning and growth—celebrating both the small wins and the big victories inside and outside of the classroom.
