Student Athlete Contract

Academic & Classroom Expectations

Student-Athletes, remember student comes before athlete. Our students are expected to perform well in the classroom consistently. Students will complete classroom check ins every other week that will be submitted to their respective coach before being reviewed by the athletic director. If a student is failing ANY class they will be suspended until they are passing. This is non-negotiable. If a student fails a marking period, they are ineligible for any sports in the following marking period.\

Our athletes are expected to always follow the PWC Code of Behavior. If you receive a suspension of any kind, you will meet with your coach, the athletic director and the staff member who gave you your referral to determine if you should be representing our school. Teachers are in charge of their classroom. It is the role of the student athlete to conduct themselves according to teacher expectations. As part of the classroom checks, if a student receives 2 or more unsatisfactory behavior marks, they will be suspended until that is corrected. This is non-negotiable. Failure to submit a complete classroom check will result in an automatic suspension until the form is handed in completed

Sportsmanship

Each day you walk into the school building, on the court, or on the field, you are representing Potomac Middle School. We expect all our student-athletes and their families to represent us with pride and a positive attitude. There will be a zero-tolerance policy for fighting, bullying, and other inappropriate behaviors to include: the use of profanity, taunting players, or being disrespectful to officials, other players or fans. Players, their families, and guests exhibiting this type of behavior will be asked to leave school property.

Practice Expectations

Teams will hold practices weekly. Students are expected to ride the activity buses or have a ride arranged for on-time pickup. If your ride is not on time, you will be put on the activity bus. There will be no exceptions to this. To ensure focus during practice, all practices are closed to parents. Please do not attempt to attend practices. If you are going to miss practice, please speak to the coach and provide a reason why. Coach will determine the validity and consequence of a missed practice. If you are attending tutoring, you must present a note from your teacher once you return to practice. An unexcused practice missed may result in limited or no playtime. If the athlete continues to miss practices, the coach may request a meeting with the athlete and parent or with the athletic director to request dismissal from the team.

Game Expectations

On game day, games are scheduled to begin at 5:15 PM. Transportation will be provided for our athletes when attending away games. Athletes are expected to attend all games unless they have after school tutoring. To be eligible to play in a game, you must attend school for half of the day. You will not be permitted to leave your sporting events early. This includes JV athletes. Part of being on a team is being a good teammate. JV and Varsity athletes are expected to stay to watch and cheer on their teammates. Please speak with your coach if you are going to miss a game. Lastly, please remember, play time is not guaranteed. Coaches will do their best to get everyone in, but it is not definitive. Play time will be based on team needs, efforts at practice, and attitude. If you have a concern regarding an incident at practice or a game, please allow twenty-four hours to pass before reaching out to your coach. We will respond via email or phone as soon as possible.
