Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we move into Quarter 2, we’re proud to share some exciting updates and celebrations from our school community! I'd like to recognize two students for their amazing artistic abilities. Miyana Kennedy and Judith Perez-Romero have been selected as winners in the PWCS Red Ribbon Week Art Contest. Their creativity and message of prevention stood out among several entries from students across the division. These students will be recognized during Citizens Time at the upcoming School Board Meeting. Way to represent Potomac with pride! We are also thrilled to celebrate our Varsity Girls Volleyball Team, who finished their season undefeated—a remarkable accomplishment that reflects their hard work, teamwork, and dedication. Our Track Team also made us proud by earning 3rd place at Regionals, showcasing their strength and perseverance.

This November, we honor and celebrate Native American History Month, recognizing the rich cultures, traditions, and contributions of Native peoples. We encourage families to engage in conversations and learning opportunities that deepen understanding and appreciation. We also celebrate School Psychology Week, highlighting the vital role our school psychologist, Sara Hughes, plays in supporting student well-being, learning, and success. Thank you to our incredible team for all they do!

We also want to remind families of the academic support available to students:

  • All-In Tutoring for Language Arts and Math
  • EL Tutoring Club for English Learners
  • Algebra Readiness Tutoring for math support

We also encourage families to regularly check ParentVUE to stay informed about grades, missing assignments, and overall academic progress. Staying connected helps ensure students get the support they need before small issues become big ones. Later this month, we will also launch our homework initiative, which shares daily opportunities for students to complete remediation and extension activities at home. If your student is in need of academic support, please reach out to their grade level counselor.

This quarter we’re also launching our Attendance HERO initiative to emphasize the importance of being:

Here
Everyday
Ready to learn
On time

Consistent attendance is key to academic success, and we appreciate your partnership in helping students build strong habits. Let’s keep the momentum going as we head toward the holiday season!
