Freedom HS Soul Squad Marching Band in NYC St. Patrick's Day ParadeHard work and practice earned Freedom High School’s Soul Squad Marching Band a place in the New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday, March 16. The Soul Squad Marching Band performed five different musical selections as they marched down Fifth Avenue, where they passed the grandstand review in front of St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

Thomas Thorogood, the band’s director, lead 50 students (Freedom HS Soul Squad Marching Eagle Band, Black Diamond Dance Team, and Golden Silk Flag Line) as they took part in one of New York City’s great traditions. This year, the parade made its way down Fifth Avenue for the 258th time. First occurring in 1762, 14 years before the Declaration of Independence, this is one of the oldest parades in the United States.
