COVID-19 PLAN FOR CONTINUITY OF LEARNING FROM HOME - MR. RODRIGUEZ  (Posted March 26, 2020)

Dear parents and students, as I said in the email I sent earlier today (Thursday March 26), I am available to you all. Just contact me via email during school hours.

In the Files and Documents section of my class page (on the left side of this page), you will find the assignments that you can re-do or retake to improve your marking period 3 grade. Please, check your Student VUE / Parent VUE before you do any of the assignments. Once you finish the assignment, please email it to me at rodrigrm@pwcs.edu.

1) For Spanish for Fluent Speakers 1a 6th grade (periods 3 and 4), the assignment "Sujetos y predicados" will help the grade that you got on the last quiz about "sujetos y predicados'. Check your grade on student VUE and decide if you would like to improve your grade. Download the assignment from the Files and Documents section. Once you are done, you can email it to me or take a picture and email it to me.

2) For Spanish for Fluent Speakers 1b 7th grade (periods 6 and 7), there are two assignments. The assignment "preguntas debate inmigracion", if you coudn't turn it in on time or if I gave you a chance to redo it, please download the assignment, fill it out and email it to me. The second assignment is a Flipgrid for the debate that we couldn't have. So go to Flipgrid
https://flipgrid.com/6c216d65 (copy and paste this direct link. The key to the Fllipgrid is debateimmigracion)and log in with your student email and password. I will give everyone extra credit for this optional task.

COVID-19 PLAN FOR CONTINUITY OF LEARNING FROM HOME - MR. RODRIGUEZ  (Posted March 23, 2020)

Hello everyone, I hope you and your families are safe during these difficult times. It is our duty to protect ourselves and the ones we love by following the guidelines that the government has provided to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Having said that, our priority is to stay healthy and take care of ourselves. Therefore, in the Spanish class we will adhere to what PWCS has stated:

  1. We will not be working on new mandatory work.
  2. No new graded work will be assigned until further notice (at least April 14).
  3. All due dates of previously assigned work (last two weeks before school was interrupted) will be pushed to at least April 14, or beyond.
  4. All work is optional during this time.
  5. I will be available to you guys if you want help or feedback on the optional/review activities. You can reach me at rodrigrm@pwcs.edu
  6. The goal during this time is not to give you a lot of work, but rather provide you with an optional review so you do not forget what we have learned so far.
  7. I will not be providing any grades (letter or numerical), but I will be providing feedback as requested.

Review plan and ongoing practice

The District has given us access to some very useful websites that are full of interactive activities that you guys can do to practice from home. You will be able to access these websites from your computer, tablet, or cell phone.

You can access these websites through Clever. If you have not accessed Clever from home, there are several ways. You can go to https://clever.com/ and use your school email and password to login. Once there, you will find my page with icons that will direct you to the websites. You can also download the Clever app for free on your Apple or Android devices.

The apps/websites that we will be using are:

1. Duolingo.
I have already created virtual classrooms for all my students. Once you log in through Clever, you will be directed to your assigned classroom. With Duolingo, you can practice at beginner, intermediate, or advance learners of Spanish. You will have access to vocabulary activities, reading, writing, listening, and grammar.

2. Polly Lingual. Similar to Duolingo. I have created virtual classrooms for all my students. Just log in through Clever, find the icon for Polly Lingual and you will be directed to the website. This website offers a wide variety of practice for Spanish language learners.

3. Storyworld. Log in through Clever. Story World is a great website that provides basic reading activities to improve phonics and reading fluency in Spanish. It comes with read-aloud activities, provides word-by-word Spanish-English translation, and it also has worksheets to work on reading comprehension.

All of these websites address our SOL standards for SFS 1a and SFS 1b (for World Language our standards are also known as WLs). Our standards are:

Virginia Foreign Language Standards of Learning: Modern World Languages Roman-Alphabet, Level 1
