During spring break students are not required to practice. However, they must take their instruments home during the break. Leaving the instruments at school could damage them due to the weather. When we come back to school it will be a burgundy day.
8th Grade Orchestra
Congratulations on earning a SUPERIOR Rating at District 9 Assessment. Our Next performance will be at our annual trip to Kings Dominion. Students should have turned in all payments for this trip.
Students have been working very hard on their current music. Students should still be practicing at home and reviewing the new sections that we have gone over in class. If students are unsure about what to practice they should come and ask me.
6th Grade Orchestra
Congratulations to the 6th Grade Orchestra on a fantastic concert on Wednesday night. They performed with the 5th Grades from Mary Williams, Rover Oaks, Swans Creek, and Porter Elementary.
Winter Orchestra Concert Dec. 7th
Our winter orchestra concert is Wednesday, Dec. 7th. Students should be at school between 6:00pm and 6:30pm dressed in all black. The concert will start at 7:00pm and end around 8. The students have worked very hard and are excited to show you what we have learned.
Most students should have their instrument by now or have a plan to get one. All students from now on need to bring their method book to class everyday. The book we use in class is New Directions for Strings book 1. If the book was not purchased through the school you will have to go to a local music store and buy one.
Practice logs are also due now on a weekly basis. 6th Graders need a total of 60 minutes and 7th and 8th graders need a total of 90 minutes a week. A letter went home last week explaining this and the due date. As always, if there are any questions please feel free to email me.
Hello Everyone and Welcome To Another Year!
In the Files and Document Folder you will find the 2016 Syllabus, A copy of the Practice Log, and a Welcome Letter. All Students will be going home with these on Wednesday or Thursday.
Since the school only has so many instruments, I cannot guarantee that everyone can rent from the school. If you are able to please go to a local music store and rent/buy one. Usually, the instruments are stores are better quality, sound better, and are easier to play which will make your child's musical experience better. More information about instruments will be provided in the welcome letter.
All students who play violin or viola will be required to have their own shoulder rest. A shoulder rest is absolutely necessary in order to correctly play those instruments.
All students will have to purchase their own method book. The book we use in class is New Directions for Strings book 1. This book may be bought through Dale City Music and Music and Arts.
